The Long....Drive to Idaho from Georgia

Montana mountains, David's truck.

Wyoming herd of Antelope

I did not take very many pictures during our drive to Idaho. David was driving his truck. I was driving the minivan. We each had 2 kids with us.

We loaded up our moving truck on Wednesday March 3. My friends parents offered to drive the moving truck for us, they needed a way back west to pick up a truck being shipped by boat from Hawaii. We gladly accepted their offer to drive the BIG truck.

We stayed at David's brother's house (Gary) in Jefferson, Georgia on Wednesday night. We said our goodbyes and we started driving on Thursday March 4th. Drove through Georgia, Tennesee, Kentucky and Illinois. We arrived in the St. Louis area Thursday night. We stayed with friends that night.

Drove more on Friday, stopped in Kansas City area for lunch at my brother Brian's house. Kept driving on through Kansas, and Iowa and stayed in Lincoln, Nebraska at a hotel. We paid extra to get the kids an indoor pool and hot tub to play in.

Saturday we drove accross the entire state of Nebraska.....and took a "shortcut" on hwy 26. This was not a shortcut at all, we drove through several small, ghost town like towns. We had to slow down to 30 miles per hour through many places and took several turns, just to stay on track. This was probably our most frustrating day. We finally got back on the interstate and stayed in Casper, Wyoming that night. Once again, at a nicer hotel with indoor pool and hot tub.

The people driving the BIG truck left Georgia 2am Sunday morning.

Sunday we drove through Wyoming up to Bozeman, Montana. We stayed with my sister Ila that night. It was about this time we received some bad news from the people driving the BIG truck for us. The truck had broke down in Kansas City and all of our belongings were going to be moved from that truck to a new truck. Crazy, but Penske took care of all it. They had a new truck dropped off, and a moving crew come and moved everything. But this was still bad news because we were only about 6 hours from our final destination in Idaho, and the moving truck was a couple days out. We knew now that we would get there before our moving truck would. We considered staying longer with my sister. However, she has a cat, and I found myself to be too allergic.

Monday morning we set out on our last section of road. This part of the road proved to be the most interesting to me. We hit the mountains. 6 hours of up and down, down, down. We climbed to over 6,000 feet, and dropped down below 3,000 feet. Steep grades, curvey roads, rain, and some snowfall made this interesting. David kept wondering what my problem was as I fell behind his rapid driving pace. I caught up to him though and we safely arrived at our destination.

We met with our landlord and got into the house. We were relieved to finally be to our new home. For the next three days we slept on airmattresses and ate from our coolers. It was kind of like camping inside.

Wednesday the moving truck came around 2:30pm. And David's brother Mike arrived with his family shortly after. Mike and his boys helped unload the truck, and the elders Quorum from our new ward came to finish it up. We had furniture! Yeah!

So here we are. My next post will talk about our little trip to Oregon. I should have known David could not be so close and not make a quick visit...
